Properties of photon & Energy of photon
Properties of photon –
- They have zero mass.
- They only exist as moving particles
- They have no electric charge.
- They carry energy which is proportional to the frequency of light.
- They travel with the speed of light.
- Intensity of light depends upon number of photons per unit area. All these photons have same frequency & wavelength. Each photon have same energy.
Energy of Photons
E ∝ 饾湀
E =h饾湀 Joules
where h is Plank's constant
value of h is 6.626 ×10⁻³⁴Js
also 饾湀 = C/位
where
C - speed of light
位 - wavelength
therefore E = hC/位 Joules
for n photons
E = nhC/位 Joules
we know 1 脜 = 10⁻¹潞 m
and 1 eV = 1.6 x 10⁻¹⁹ J
therefore E = 12420/位 eV
